But, despite the growing popularity, distance working comes with its <strong>fair share of challenges<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve asked 22 professionals who work remotely in different positions to share their biggest hurdles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turns out, most remote workers encounter 9 common problems. In most cases, you end up talking only about work without getting to know each other.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, remote workers are often lonely. Sometimes, the solution is switching to a <a href=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/business\/hybrid-work-schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hybrid work model<\/a> that gets you at least some in-person time with colleagues.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head of marketing in the education sector, <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.linkedin.com\/in\/jamesriceuk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">James Rice<\/a>, did the same after 8 years of working remotely. Work colleagues can become lifelong friends and form the basis of a lot of social activities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A freelance writer and research assistant working remotely since 2016, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dileeshus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Diane Lee<\/a>, claims that despite the obvious advantages, isolation is still the #1 issue of remote work:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns pro-blockquote is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/diane-lee.jpeg\" alt=\"Diane Lee\" class=\"wp-image-31499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/diane-lee.jpeg 800w, https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/diane-lee-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/diane-lee-630x630.jpeg 630w, https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/diane-lee-768x768.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/diane-lee-12x12.jpeg 12w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em><em>\u201cThe main challenge I face as a remote worker is isolation. The benefits are that I can more or less work my own hours (pressing deadlines aside) \u2014 and from any location. But the fact that I work alone (as a sociable person) is something that I\u2019ve had to overcome. When I worked in an office back in Australia, my colleagues were also my friends.\u201d<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, freelance photographer, content writer, and designer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/connormollison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Connor Mollison<\/a> finds the lack of opportunities to socialize to be the key issue of remote work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns pro-blockquote is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/connor-mollison.jpg\" alt=\"Connor Mollison\" class=\"wp-image-31498\" srcset=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/connor-mollison.jpg 800w, https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/connor-mollison-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/connor-mollison-630x630.jpg 630w, https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/connor-mollison-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/connor-mollison-12x12.jpg 12w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em><em>\u201cAlthough I\u2019m naturally an introvert, lack of social interaction has led to poorer mental health and not as much mental energy.\u201d<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Research also suggests that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/383723616_The_Impact_of_Remote_Work_on_Workplace_Loneliness_During_and_after_COVID-19_A_Literature_Review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">remote workers often feel lonelier<\/a> than their in-office counterparts due to a lack of social interactions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"how-to-handle-isolation-and-loneliness-when-working-remotely\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to handle isolation and loneliness when working remotely<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While being physically separate from team members can be discomforting, taking active steps to socialize is crucial for a <a href=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/managing-time\/remote-work-setting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">healthy work-from-home setting<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diane Lee finds this conscious effort to meet up with people beneficial in warding off loneliness:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns pro-blockquote is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/diane-lee.jpeg\" alt=\"Diane Lee\" class=\"wp-image-31499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/diane-lee.jpeg 800w, https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/diane-lee-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/diane-lee-630x630.jpeg 630w, https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/diane-lee-768x768.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/clockify.me\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/diane-lee-12x12.jpeg 12w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em><em>\u201cI\u2019ve found that I now have to build socializing into my daily routine because if I don\u2019t actively seek to socialize, it doesn\u2019t happen.
