This guide covers the basics of time tracking, including how to start and stop timers, manage time entries, and use additional features that make tracking easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Set up time tracking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Before you can start tracking time, you need to ensure that the <strong>Time Tracker<\/strong> is activated and accessible in your workspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To access Time Tracker page:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Log in to your account<\/strong> and navigate to your workspace<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">From the sidebar, click on the <strong>Time Tracker<\/strong> to access the page<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Once you\u2019re on the <strong>Time Tracker<\/strong> page, you&#8217;re ready to start tracking your time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Choose your time tracking platform<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can track time using one of the following platforms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.clockify.me\/en\/login\"><strong>Web app<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Browser extension<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/chromewebstore.google.com\/detail\/clockify-time-tracker\/pmjeegjhjdlccodhacdgbgfagbpmccpe?pli=1\">Chrome<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/en-US\/firefox\/addon\/clockify-time-tracker\/\">Firefox<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Desktop app<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/mac-time-tracking\">Mac<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/help\/apps\/windows-desktop-app\">Windows<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/help\/apps\/linux-desktop-app\">Linux<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Mobile app<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/clockify-time-tracker\/id1304431926\">iOS<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/help\/apps\/android-app\">Android<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All tracked data syncs online, so you can access your time entries from any device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Track time with timer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Start timer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To begin tracking your time, follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Go to the <strong>Time Tracker<\/strong> page<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Click the <strong>clock icon<\/strong> in the upper-right corner to enter Timer mode<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter activity details (Optional):\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>What are you working on? &#8211; <\/strong>Describe your task<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Project\/Task &#8211; <\/strong>Select or create a project\/task<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Billability &#8211;<\/strong> Select Billable\/Non-billable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Tags &#8211; <\/strong>Add any relevant tags to categorize the activity (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">4. Click <strong>START<\/strong> to start tracking time<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/track-time-in-time-tracker.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28614\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"note\">Please check with your manager if there\u2019s a predefined workflow that you should follow when creating time entries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stop timer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To stop the timer when you finish your task:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Go to the <strong>Time Tracker<\/strong> page<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Click the <strong>STOP <\/strong>button to stop the timer<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/stop-timer.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28615\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The timer will continue running until you manually stop it.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">If you leave the page or close the browser, the timer will keep running unless you\u2019re running the timer from the <a href=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/help\/apps\/chrome-extension#start-stop-automatically\">browser extension<\/a>, which has an option to stop the timer when you close the browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Timer icon on browser tab<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To help you track active time, the Clockify tab icon in your browser changes when the timer is running. Click <strong>Save<\/strong> to apply the changes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Bulk-edit-time-entries.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28619\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Split time entries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"note translation-block\">Split time is a paid feature available when you upgrade to <a href=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/pricing\">any paid plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To split a time entry:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Go to <strong>Time Tracker<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Click on the <strong>three-dot icon<\/strong> next to the entry you want to split<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Click <strong>Split<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move the slider to specify where you want to split the time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Click <strong>Save<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Split-timer.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28620\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Duplicate time entries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To duplicate time entries:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Go to <strong>Time Tracker<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the three-dot icon next to the entry you want to duplicate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Click <strong>Duplicate<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Duplicate-time-entry.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28621\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Delete time entry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To delete a time entry:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Go to <strong>Time Tracker<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Click on the <strong>three-dot icon<\/strong> next to the entry you want to delete<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Click <strong>Delete<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Click <strong>DELETE<\/strong> again on the pop-up to confirm<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Delete-time-entry.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28622\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tip\">After deleting an entry, a green pop-up appears. You have two simple ways to fix your time tracking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Just edit it:<\/strong> Click on the time entry you want to change and put in the right start time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Go to the Timesheet:<\/strong> Head over to the Timesheet page to add any missing entries or check on your past tracked time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Can I track time on multiple projects at the same time?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only one active timer is permitted within a single workspace. However, if simultaneous time tracking on multiple projects is required, a separate workspace should be used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What happens if I forget to stop the timer?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">If the timer runs for an extended period of time, Clockify can send you an email reminder. You can turn this <a href=\"https:\/\/clockify.me\/help\/track-time-and-expenses\/notifications-in-clockify\">notification<\/a> on or off in your Profile settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Can I change the project or task while the timer is running?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, you can update the project, task, description, and other details while the timer is running by editing the fields directly on the Time Tracker page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How can I add time manually?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need to add time manually, switch to Manual mode. In this mode, you can input the time details including start\/end time and project info without using a live timer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why don&#8217;t I see an option to split or duplicate time entries?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Split and duplicate features are disabled when Force Timer is enabled.
