Clockify allows you to manage and configure advanced settings for your profile such as webhooks<\/strong> and API keys<\/strong>. This way get more control over your account’s security and efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

API keys<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s important to save your API keys in a secure place. If you lose a key, or don\u2019t save it, generating a new one will deactivate the old key, potentially breaking existing setups and integrations.
In Clockify, you can save your API keys and edit them, as needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Find your API key settings in the Advanced <\/strong>tab of your Profile settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click Manage API keys<\/strong> button and see a list of all the APIs you\u2019ve generated on the page that opens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here, you can manage your API keys in a few different ways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Generate API key<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To create a new key:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Click Generate new<\/strong> at the top right corner of the page<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Generate API key window opens <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Enter a name for your new API key
    Give a descriptive name, so that you know what it is for. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Click Generate<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Your new key will be automatically created and added to the list on the Manage API keys<\/strong> page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Edit API key<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    If you need to make some changes to the API key:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    1. Click the three-dots menu<\/strong> next to the API key you want to disable<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Choose Rename\/Delete <\/strong>option
      \"\"<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Enter new name or click Delete<\/strong> to confirm the action<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      New API key name is automatically updated on the Manage API keys<\/strong> page.
      After being deleted, that API key can no longer be used and is automatically removed from the Manage API keys<\/strong> page and the Accounts <\/strong>tab in the Workspace settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Webhooks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      This feature is available to Workspace owners and admins. The webhooks section is not visible to other user roles.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

      Create webhooks to receive real-time notifications and data updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      1. Go to Preferences<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Select the Advanced<\/strong> tab<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. In the Webhooks<\/strong> section, click on Manage webhooks<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      4. You will be redirected to the Webhooks<\/strong> page<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        If you are part of multiple workspaces, choose the relevant workspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        To create a new webhook:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \n
        1. Click on the Create new<\/strong> button at the top right corner<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. In the Create webhook<\/strong> window, provide the following details:
          \"\"
          Name<\/strong>: Specify a name for your webhook
          Endpoint<\/strong>: Enter the webhook\u2019s endpoint URL
          Event<\/strong>: Choose the event that will trigger the webhook<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. Click on Create<\/strong> to complete the process<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          If you are part of multiple workspaces, choose the relevant workspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Created webhook events are sorted in alphabetical order. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

          The webhook event can be disabled while created, if Clockify workspace is not on the subscription plan that supports this feature.  <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

          Webhook details<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          If you\u2019d like to see webhook details, you can do that by opening a three-dots menu of that webhook. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \n
          • Go to the webhook you\u2019d like to examine<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Open Details<\/strong> in the three-dots menu <\/li>\n\n\n\n
          •  New page opens with the list of Webhook attempts<\/strong> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            Here, you can see the attempt time and status of the event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Attempt time follows the format set in the preferences.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

            Test webhook can also be displayed in the Webhook attempts with the appropriate status and payload. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Webhook retry mechanism<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

            Clockify uses an automated retry mechanism to handle temporary outage or endpoint issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            If your domain is unavailable, the system will automatically retry sending the webhook up to 4 times over a 72-hour period: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

              \n
            • Retry 1: 12 seconds after the failure<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Retry 2: 10 minutes later<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Retry 3: 30 minutes later<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Retry 4: 72 hours later (for long-term outage)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

              Only 2xx HTTP responses are marked as Succeeded. Timed-out or non-2xx responses are marked as Failed or Retrying.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

              You can click Resend on any webhook attempt, regardless of its current status. If the manual resend is successful, the status will be updated to Succeeded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              There is a color-coding to your Preferences tab to help you track statuses at a glance: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                \n
              • Webhook status<\/strong>: Active, Disabled<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • Attempt status<\/strong>: Succeeded, Retrying, Failed <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                Edit webhook<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

                If you\u2019d like to modify any data related to the webhooks, you can do that by choosing the editing option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  \n
                • Go to the webhook you\u2019d like to edit<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • Open Edit<\/strong> in the three-dots menu <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                •  New page opens with the list of Webhook attempts<\/strong> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                  Here you can modify all the elements of the created webhook: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    \n
                  • Change webhook name<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Change endpoint URL<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Choose another event from the dropdown<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Change (reset) Signing secret<\/strong> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                    Delete webhook<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

                    If you\u2019d like to delete webhook that is deprecated or you\u2019re not using anymore, you can do that in the following way: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                      \n
                    • Go to the webhook you\u2019d like to edit<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                    • Choose Delete<\/strong> in the three-dots menu <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                    • Click Delete<\/strong> in the confirmation window<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                      Marketplace webhooks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
