Track time

3 min read

Creating a time entry allows you to log the hours you spend on tasks using a timer, manual input, timesheet, or calendar view.

Track time in Time Tracker #

The timer is the best way to track your work as it happens.

  1. Navigate to the Time Tracker page
  2. Click the What are you working on? box
  3. Type a short description of your task
  4. Select a Project to associate the time with (optional)
  5. Click Start to begin the timer
  6. Click Stop once you finish your task
Tip

Shortcut: You can start the timer quickly by pressing n on your keyboard if you are not editing any fields.

Enter time manually #

If you forgot to start the timer or prefer to log your work at the end of the day, you can manually add time.

  1. Go to the Time Tracker page
  2. Click the list icon in the upper right corner to switch to Manual mode
  3. Enter the start and end time (or just the duration)
  4. Type a description of your task
  5. Select a Project
  6. Click Add to save the entry
Tip

Shortcut: Press m on your keyboard to activate Manual mode.

Enter time in Timesheet #

Note

If you don’t see the Timesheet tab in the sidebar, you may need to enable it in your Workspace settings.

The timesheet view is ideal if you prefer to enter time for the entire week at once.

  1. Go to the Timesheet page
  2. Click the Task/@Project link (required when Timesheet is enabled)
  3. Choose a task or project
  4. Enter the number of hours you worked in the correct Day column
  5. Click anywhere on the screen or press Enter/Return to save

Track time in the Calendar view #

The Calendar view provides a visual timeline of your day, making it easy to fill in gaps.

  1. Go to the Calendar page
  2. Click on any open time slot on the calendar
  3. Enter the task description and select a Project
  4. Adjust the start and end times if necessary
  5. Click Add to save the entry
Tip

You can drag and drop entries to move them to different times or click and drag the edges of a block to resize it.

Continue an existing entry #

You can quickly resume a timer for a task you previously worked on without re-entering the details.

  1. Find the entry you want to resume
  2. Click the Play icon on the right side of the entry

The timer will immediately start with the same description, project, and tags.

Note

This process creates a new entry rather than resuming the old one.

Change start time of the running timer #

You can change the start time while the timer is running by clicking on the running time. Then you can manually type in your real start time.

Use Case

This is useful when you start an activity but you aren’t able to start the timer at that moment (e.g. you’re on a meeting and are away from the computer).
